"Aloft"
Guitarist
Sean Harkness was once a student of Brian Keane's, and when Brian
needed a cut to open the "Summer
Solstice" CD for Windham Hill he was able to give Sean
his first major-label break. Sean seized the moment by co-writing
with Brian what turned out to be the opening cut for that highly
successful record. "Aloft" is Sean's debut CD. Sean
Harkness shows remarkable maturity on this record as a player,
and the tunes are consistently well thought out. Sean plays lead
and rhythm guitar as well as fretless bass on most cuts. He is
joined on selected cuts by pianist Liz Story, percussionists Emedin
Rivera, Mark Walker and Steven Scales, and keyboard players Federico
Pena and Jay Rowe. Alson joining Sean are Puerto Rican cuatro
player Yomo Toro, and Pat Methany musical director (and in this
case accordionist) Gil Goldstein. Horn players Ken Gioffre and
Jaime Finnegan join Brian Keane on steel drums on the irreverent
"Coconuts". Other highlights include "Siempre Conmigo",
"Cuchullain's Dream", "Green Mountain Trail",
and "Luna Bailando". Recorded and mixed at Little Big
Feet by Brian Keane and Jeff Frez-Albrecht, "Aloft"
is an impressive debut CD.

Guitar Heaven: Picked up this CD a week ago -- what a terrific
guitarist! I thought the production was top-notch, and the melodies
were striking enough to be with me for the rest of the day.
