"At Home"
Brian
Keane's second production of the all female Celtic group Cherish
The Ladies is a worthy follow-up to their terrific major label
debut release "Threads Of Time".
The group exudes an unusual charm and naturalness that makes the
listener feel at home. There are the romping Irish "diddly" pieces,
heartbreakingly beautiful ballads, and stellar vocal pieces as
in their earlier CD, but what sets this CD apart is that it focuses
on their family heritage, from whence the music came. Each of
the members of Cherish The Ladies have inherited their talents
from musical parents or siblings. On several cuts, those parents
and siblings join the group with their instruments. Perhaps the
most spectacular example of this is the beautiful "John Of Dreams",
in which Aiofe Clancy and Cherish The Ladies are joined by her
father, Bobby Clancy, and her uncle, Liam Clancy, of the famed
Clancy Brothers. The band's remake of the Dan Fogelberg classic
"Leader Of The Band" has also garnered them much favorable attention.
Other special guests include the group's fiddler, Siobhan Egan's
brother Seamus Egan (leader of the group Solas), acclaimed fiddler
and original band member Eileen Ivers, and percussionist Arto
Tuncboyaciyan, among others. A PBS special featuring Cherish The
Ladies and special guests, filmed during their grueling 200+ date
concert schedule, accompanies this CD. "At Home" is one of our
favorite releases of 1999.

"More than just the best I've heard yet from Cherish The Ladies;
even more than the best Celtic collection I've heard - this is
music beyond genre. Music that works its way straight into your
soul and then out to your fingers-drumming, toes-tapping extremities!
'At Home' displays the amazing musical alchemy of these fine musicians:
blending musical brilliance into passion, joy, and excitement.
Whew! Time to press PLAY again!"
"The
latest offering from Joanie Madden and the girls of Cherish the
Ladies is nothing short of brilliance. With a mix of poignant,
thought provoking songs and beautiful arrangements that they have
become famous for, this CD is definately the best that I have
heard by far. There are traditional as well as original compositions
included and the balance on the CD is perfect. Specifically, the
vocals sung by Aoife Clancy are amazing. The clarity, breadth,
and range in her voice are all evident on each of the tracks.
‘The Curragh of Kildare', ‘The Leader of the Band', and ‘John
Of Dreams' are all masterfully arranged and presented. As one
of CTL's biggest fans, I strongly recommend this CD for those
who appreciate a mix of beautiful songs, and traditional/original
tunes."
