"Fire Dance"
The
highly acclaimed follow-up to the "Suleyman
The Magnificent" soundtrack, this is the first of two Brian
Keane/Faruk Tekbilek duo records. All of the instruments on the
CD were played by either Brian or Faruk. The CD took six months
to record, and creates an exotic journey through the deserts of
North Africa. Standouts include "Oglan Boyun", "A Call To Prayer",
"Desert Twilight", "Song Of The Pharaohs", and the spirited "Halay".
Among the best CDs in the catalog, "Fire Dance" was nominated

"This second collaboration between Keane and Tekbilek continues
the blending of Middle East with West that began on their acclaimed
1988 soundtrack for the TV documentary "Suleyman
The Magnificent". Keane provides a base of lushly layered
synthesizer textures into which he and Turkish multi-instrumentalist
Tekbilek insinuate an ever-changing array of dance melodies, folk
tunes, calls to prayer and serene meditations drawn from Turkey
and North Africa, weaving a unique musical fabric rich in colourful
detail. Keane's main instrument is the acoustic guitar, but more
important than his impeccable technique is his ability to blend
it naturally with Tekbilek's exotic flutes, ouds, and darbukas.
By turns haunting, stimulating and even finger-popping, this is
among the happiest meetings of musical cultures." --Johnny Black

Heartsong Review: "These two wildly talented musicians
give the feel of a symphony to this music from Turkey, North Africa,
Egypt, Middle East, and Arabic sources. The full variety of music
in that area of the globe is represented in the album. Each piece
is defferent from the last. Fire Dance is a masterful rendition
of native folk music in modern interpretation. The music is danceable,
entertaining and very spiritual. Very highly recommended..."
Down
Beat: "...Tekbilek is a revelation here, playing reeds,
string instruments, hand drums, and synthesizers, all with agility
and feeling. Keane contributes acoustic guitar leads and an acute
producer's sensitivity to the spirit of this music."

the smae time"
