"The Renaissance
Album"
Christine
Reed, at the time A&R director for Windham Hill, asked Brian
Keane to produce a classical concept CD. Intrigued with the acoustic
similarities between ancient instruments and some of the landmark
Windham Hill Records, and with the similarities and simplicities
of compositional content, Brian suggested that the record be focused
on the Renaissance period. After some research by Christine, Brian,
and the musicians, "The Renaissance Album" was born.
The CD has a lovely flow to it, seemlessly moving between Renaissance
and New Age sensibilities. Highlights include "Three Italian
Dances", which will make you feel like you are in a medieval
castle, George Winston playing lute on "Villanelle",
the authentic instrumentation of Ex Umbris on "Le Petite
Riense/Rosti Bolli", Lisa Lynne's lovely harp, lute, and
viola de gamba trio "How Sweet The Toment", and Liz
Story's lilting piano and acoustic bass duet "Pieds En L'Aire".
