"You're Good
Enough, You're Smart Enough, And Doggone It...People Like You"
As
Al Franken's slightly demented character Stuart Smalley, made
famous on "Saturday Night Live", would say: "A
guided journey through the dysfunctional forest, and other visualizations".
This is an hilarious spoof on New Age self-help tapes in which
the main character, Stuart Smalley (who needs much help himself),
is doing the guiding. Al Franken's instructions to Brian Keane
on the music for this project was that "...the music should
have the heart of Mozart, but the mind of Salieri". Al dug
up some very funny real self-help tapes to use as a jumping-off
point, and jump off it does. All mayhem takes place by the end
of this tape, as any fan of Stuart's would expect. Produced by
Taro Meyer, this is a very funny project, and was nominated for
a Grammy for the "Best Comedy Album" of 1993. "You're
Good Enough...." was on the New York Times Best Seller List
for much of that same year.
