Reviews:
Amazon.com:
Irish Edition: "If you have not bought the albums of the
individual performers, the ‘Celtic Twilight' series is worth adding
to your collection." – Jamie O'Brien
CD Now: "Today more than ever, the public's abounding
fascination with all things Celtic remains impregnable. To satiate
the ever-growing appetite for Celtic music, record labels continue
to deliver wholesome compilations. Hearts O' Space, the Celtic
arm of the Hearts of Space new age/world label, is currently on
its fifth installment in the Celtic Twilight series, thanks to
the million-selling success of the other four. With the exception
of 'Ailein Duinn (Theme from Rob Roy)', sung by Irish soprano
Meav, former soloist with Anuna, Riverdance and the Irish National
Concert Orchestra, all 14 tracks on Celtic Twilight 5 are culled
from previously released recordings by Hearts O' Space artists.
This includes The Danna Brothers, John Doan, Bill Douglas, Joanie
Madden and Jeff Johnson. The Celts, being a highly spiritual people,
rely heavily upon both pagan and Christian imagery to get their
point across. 'Iona' features the Ritual Choir of the Church of
Saint Mary Magdalene, 'Saint Patrick in the Spirit' pays homage
to the patron saint of the Emerald Isle, while 'Navigatio' is
inspired by 5th century Irish monk St. Brendan. Two of the more
intriguing tracks are Bill Douglas' choral composition of the
classic English poem, 'My Love Is Like A Red, Red Rose', with
vocals by the Ars Nova Singers, and the coupling of Joanie Madden's
Irish whistle with Jimmy Higgins' bodhran on 'Charlie Mulvihill's/The
Conspiracy'. Marrying traditional folk arrangements and mythical
romantic ballads with modern improvisation, Celtic Twilight 5
succeeds in capturing the Celtic spirit in all its splendid incarnations."
