singer/kora player Vieux Diop's debut record "Via Jo"
(titled phonetically to help english-speaking novices pronounce
his name correctly) is one of the most enjoyable CDs in our catalog.
Vieux posesses a special intimate quality in both his singing
and his kora playing, and is a melodic, compelling writer. Vieux
is surrounded on this CD by his band of superb and exotic African
musicians. Brian Keane produced this record, and arranged most
of the tracks. The album was recorded at SounTec Studios in Norwalk
CT, and Pulsewave Underground Studios in Trumbull CT, and mixed
at Little Big Feet Studios in Monroe CT by Ron Bach, Keith Chirgwin,
and Brian Keane. Every track is a standout. One of the most critically
acclaimed records worldwide, "Via Jo" was the number
one record on the World charts in Europe, and was named one of
the best CDs of 1995 by Mix Magazine.
